Abstract
Experience gained in the treatment of thirteen cases by simultaneous mandibular resection
and reconstruction via the oral route indicate that this approach is just as successful
as the extraoral one. Also, we know that it is possible to transplant large bone segments
to infected areas and that the success of this method cannot be attributed to the
effect of antibiotics alone. Furthermore, it is suggested that in the young patient
a transplanted cortex-free segment from the iliac crest will, with function, grow
and assume the form of the replaced bone.
