Abstract
The foregoing case clearly demonstrates that sarcoidosis is often diagnosed by exclusion

be performed. The presence of giant-cell inclusions, such as asteroid and Schaumann
bodies, although not diagnostic, is suggestive of sarcoid and may suggest viral etiology.
