A 71-year-old woman presented to the St. Louis Dental Center with a swelling of the left posterolateral hard palatal mucosa. The swelling was asymptomatic, and the patient reported that she first noticed it 1 month before presentation and evaluation. Her medical history was significant for diabetes mellitus type 2, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and trochanteric bursitis of the left hip. Her current medications included hydrochlorothiazide, losartan, metformin, pravastatin, and meloxicam. The patient denied use of tobacco products or history of trauma to the affected area. She also denied any history of night sweats, fatigue, fever, malaise, or sudden weight loss.
